Tips for updating any room on a budget

Every so often you get in the mood of updating different rooms in the house. You may be ready for an entirely new look for your kitchen, or you just want to do some updating to your dining room and living room in order to add some new life to your upcoming holiday parties.  At the same time, you are not ready to empty all your savings to create this makeover.  The good news is that you can accomplish so much by spending a minimal amount if you are a bit handy and have a creative flair.
One improvement that will transform your room instantly would be by adding different moldings throughout your home or the specific room that you would like to redo.  This can be done simply and without much of an investment. In order to get started on this you would need to purchase a couple of new router bits and some simple pieces of wood for the molding.  With the correct router bits you can create intricate architectural designs on your own. You will find that with even a simple chair rail molding or a ceiling medallion you can give a new look to your room that you will really enjoy.
Another great way to update any room is to give your walls a new coat of paint.  Painting is inexpensive and it will do so much.  Choose a color that is a shade darker than you might think of naturally.  Darker and more vibrant colors add so much life to the room.  You can even choose multiple colors for each room.  Make one wall a contrasting color to the others.  This will make for a new focal point within the room.  If you want to save money you can choose to paint the room on your own, although, you may want to have an expert help you choose your colors.  An expert will know which colors will look right with the lighting that you have filtering into your home and with your other furniture that is already there. With the right choice of paint colors you can do so much.
Scraping your wood floors and striping your wood furniture and cabinets will give you great opportunities to give a completely new look to what you already own.  You can stain you floors with a totally different color giving you a whole new look. The old kitchen cabinets that you were hoping to get rid of, but pushed off for another time, why not give them a new look by striping them and staining them or painting them, with whatever color you prefer.   Add a new color and some great new hardware and it will be up to date and as good as new. You can re-stain your front door or just one or two pieces of furniture and achieve the updated look that you were looking for.
Last but not least make use of second hand shops and online local classified listing to find terrific buys on furniture, accent pieces, lighting, rugs, pictures etc.  Virtually everything and anything that you would like can be bought second hand for just a fraction of the cost of buying new. With a bit of ingenuity and creativity you will be able to turn any old room into a beautiful and up to date room.
