Make Your House Dust Free

Dust may contain moulds, fibres, dander from your pets, as well as tiny dust mites. These mites thrive if the house is warm and humid. To a large extent, you can eliminate dust from your house. Follow these steps:
  • Reduce the number of surfaces which can collect dust - less furniture and no carpets.
  • Give the room a thorough cleaning - completely empty the room and scrub the walls and the floor. Also, dust every fixture in that room.
  • Remove and discard wall-to-wall carpeting and rugs.
  • Empty and clean out all closets.
  • Store clothing in zipped bags.
  • Keep shoes in boxes off the floor; if possible keep them in another well aired room.
  • Clean the woodwork thoroughly and varnish each surface.
  • Frequently wash all sheets, pillow covers as well as the heavy and sheet curtains in hot water.
  • Keep your room well ventilated with plenty of air circulation. High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentration of pollutants. Use air conditioners with electrostatic and HEPA ( High efficiency particulate absorption ) filters that can effectively remove many irritants from the air. A dehumidifier may help because mites tend to multiply in high humidity.
  • Ensure there are no damp patches in the room - these will attract mould and fungus.
  • Avoid stuffed toys for your child - use only washable toys of wood, rubber, metal, plastic.
  • Keep the pets away from your bedroom and do not let them sleep on the beds or the sofas.
  • No indoor plants - or silk or fresh flowers - in the room.
  • Always damp-dust with a slightly damp duster than a dry cloth - it will minimize the distribution of dust through the air.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner and not a broom - a broom merely replaces dust from one place to the other.
  • Do not smoke inside the house
