Backyard Landscaping: Transforming Your Backyard

Much like a living room is for public entertaining and a bedroom is your quiet and private domain, your frontyard and backyard will often serve different purposes of outdoor landscaping. The front of your house is more public. You want passers-by to stop, roll down their windows, and say to themselves, "That's the house I want." Your backyard is your personal outdoor oasis.
Backyard Landscaping Installations
You may hear about backyard installations that have better or worse value return. A costly gazebo or storage shed may not have the same installation cost-to-property value ratio as a moderately priced pond or swimming pool. Your first question when deciding what backyard landscaping project to undertake should always be your lifestyle.
If you long for afternoon barbecues, a deck is probably where you should start. If you prefer quiet, evening dining, a patio is probably the better bet. If you're an avid reader who finds the outdoors relaxing, a pond/waterfall combination may be ideal. A swimming pool can be a good installation that both you and your children can enjoy. Don't go for projects that seem trendy, unless you're sure it fits your lifestyle and/or you plan on selling your home in the next few years.
Planning for the future can mean more than just spending more on your installation project or getting the most bang for your buck. A common example of this is an above ground swimming pool installation. If you have children, they may bug you to put in a swimming pool. Spending more on this swimming pool may increase its lifetime by an extra ten years. It may seem like a good idea at the time, but once the kids leave the nest, your priorities may change.
You could invest that extra money and in ten years use that money to replace the swimming pool. An above ground swimming pool is one of the easiest installations to replace. Digging the foundation for the swimming pool is also natural ground preparation for a garden or patio.
Backyard Landscaping Care and Maintenance
General landscaping care and maintenance can be more about getting the most for your money. Planting or removing trees or other plants can provide many options and several of them can save you money and still achieve similar effects. Existing topsoil can often be revitalized in a relatively short amount of time at a significantly cheaper price. The most important thing is to ask a lot of questions before you make any actual plans. Talking to a landscaping professional about what you want for your backyard landscaping can be invaluable for both quality and cost. Be sure to ask what your options are and make sure you can justify each decision to yourself.
When hiring a lawn service company, it's important to find a reputable company, but it's also a good idea to get quotes from several companies. To save on operating costs, these companies tend to bundle their services into packages. Different companies may have different packages. Finding the right fit for your specific lawn needs can help you make the best choice

Implement Vaastu Tips in your House

Is it that you have set up a new company, hired the best people in business, put in all the money required and still not getting the results that you are seeking? Chances are that the building in which you have set up your new office is not designed as per Vaastu Shastra. Now you must be wondering what vaastu shastra is and what connection this has got with either the success or the failure of your new business venture. Vaastu Shastra is an ancient and traditional Hindu norm of town planning and architecture that suggests placing things in coordination with the metaphysical and physical forces. Conceptually Vaastu is similar to the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui in the sense that it advocates the harmonization of the flow of energy in the atmosphere. Following vaastu tips have turned out to be greatly beneficial for several business undertakings and households as well.

You just need to make sure that you are following the right vaastu tips or else this can harm you, your family and your business to a great extent. There are some vaastu tips, which you may find difficult to implement, but if you take a little effort and do this, you will feel the benefits very soon. Some of the common vaastu tips that you can easily incorporate in your house or your office are to arrange the furniture of your house or office in the form of an octagon, a circle or a square as will be suitable to your house of office. Keeping a water body in your living room is said to be beneficial, so what you can do is place a water body like an aquarium. The aquarium must have nine fishes including eight goldfish and one black fish.

Vaastu suggests that there should not be any obstructive houses or other constructions that are obstructive to your house. Vaastu shastra needs to be implemented in the very early stages when you decide to purchase a plot for constructing your house or your office. After you have constructed the house or bought the plot of land, it will be extremely difficult on your part to take down things or rearrange them in a sequence as per vaastu norms. Therefore, from the very beginning you must ensure that you see a vaastu shastra specialist and take his guidance and vaastu tips while purchasing the plot for your house or constructing your house. You must ensure that you enlist the services of the best vaastu shastra specialist in your city and implement the vaastu tips in constructing your house or office.

Some of the other vaastu tips that you can easily implement in your day-to-day lives are not to hoard withered flowers, stale food, waste paper or any other waste materials, torn clothes, useless things, empty jars and tins. All these stale and waste things are believed to prevent Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth from entering the house. Take care that that your house and office has enough of sunlight and air coming in.

Do You Need an Architect?

The stunning homes you see in glossy magazines are almost always custom-designed by licensed architects. They are the unique creations of men and women with the skill and the know-how to explore new and unexpected possibilities. But, what if your own dreams are more modest? Must you hire an architect?

Maybe not. If your taste runs toward traditional, you may opt for one of these cost-saving alternatives.

1. Purchase a Stock Building Plan  Stock building plans are drawn by architects and home designers for mass marketing through magazines, catalogs, and Web sites.

Advantages: You can easily find stock plans for houses in a wide variety of sizes, styles, and budgets. If you are able to find a stock plan that works for you, you will save the cost of hiring your own architect.

Disadvantages: The architect who designed your stock building plan has never met you and does not know your tastes and needs. Moreover, stock building plans cannot take into account the nature of your building lot or the climate in your region. Many people who purchase stock building plans eventually decide to hire an architect to make modifications.
2. Use a Production Home Builder  New homes in suburban housing developments are often constructed by production home builders. Production home builders have contracted with architects and designers to create plans suitable for the region and harmonious with other houses in the development. When you work with a production home builder, you must select one of the builder's offered plans. You then "customize" the plan by choosing exterior siding, light fixtures, bay windows, and other architectural features from a menu of options.

Advantages: Builders can work more quickly and more economically when they follow familiar, traditional plans. Since the plans are locally created, they will probably be suitable for the climate and the terrain.

Disadvantages: Your home will be assembled from a limited array of standard features. Although you may request some customization, your house will not be a custom home. It is likely to look very similar to the other houses in your development. Your builder may refuse, or charge highly for, any changes that are not on the established list of options.

3. Hire a Certified Professional Building Designer   Another cost-saving alternative is to hire a Certified Professional Building Designer (also known as a Home Designer) to design your now home. Home designers do not have the same level of education or the same licensing requirements as architects, and their fees are usually lower. Nevertheless, professional home designers do hold professional certificates which demonstrate that they have completed coursework and achieved experience in the field.

Advantages: Home designers specialize in private homes - not office buildings, shopping centers or gas stations. For this reason, a home designer may actually have more experience designing houses than some licensed architects. A good home designer can create a customized home tailor-made for your family.

Disadvantages: Like builders and real estate developers, home designers tend to produce plans which are traditional. In general, home designers do not have the training to create especially complex or unusual designs. If you have special needs, or if you desire a home that is truly unique, then you'll need to hire an architect.

Architects are licensed professionals. Like doctors and lawyers, they have completed university programs and lengthy internships, and they have passed a series of rigorous exams. Their training covers many areas, ranging from landscape design to structural engineering.

This diversity means that architects can see possibilities and find solutions to your special needs. While a builder or a home designer may make some adaptations at your request, a good architect will anticipate your needs - even if you are not sure how to express them.

What Architects DoFor some projects, architects wear many hats. They may create the design, do the drafting, select the materials and supervise the entire work process. Ideally, your architect will visit your building site and observe the direction of the sun, the placement of trees, and the location of the best views.

These services will add 8% to 12% to the final cost of building your home.

For other projects, the architect's role may be limited to drafting the blueprints. If you can find stock blueprints similar to your own dream house, you may be able to hire an architect to make alterations. Changing an existing plan is always less expensive than designing a house from scratch.

Before drafting a design, a good architect will spend time talking with you and other members of your family.
What Architects Ask
Where does your family watch television?
How important is an informal dining room?
Do you like to give parties?
Do you regard the bedroom as a sanctuary where you spend many daytime hours? Or, is the bedroom simply a place to sleep?
Do you need a private area for your computer? Or, would you prefer the home computing center be located in a central location where children can be supervised?
What bothers you about the house you're living in right now? And, what do you love about your current home?Even if you are working within a tight budget, it does not make good economical sense to cut corners on design. Talented professionals will help you avoid costly mistakes - and can assure that the home you build is ideally suited for the way you live.

Advantages of Indoor Plants

Plants in an apartment or a house have several uses. They embellish the scene, make it comfortable and welcoming. They also help purify the air in the house and serve as an exciting and varied leisure. Specific care is actually needed because the plants are much more than simple adornment, they are more like living ornaments. It is source of personal satisfaction and pride for the person who gives all his care and attention to these plants.
The arrangement for the plant you just purchased or that you have offered is crucial and decisive. For the well-being and beauty of your plants, the temperature of the room in which they are located should not be too high and should remain as constant as possible.
Indoor plants love the natural light but not direct sunlight which can burn their leaves quickly. Choose a place that is airy and bright enough for your plants. Generally, the best location is near the windows.
Plants also resent drafts. A narrow entrance without clarity is not conducive to the installation of plants. Remember also to install a green plant in your bathroom if it has a window. A Cyperus (Umbrella Plant) is an aquatic plant with a resistant and undemanding fragrance that thrives in the bath.
Also be sure not to expose your plant near a direct source of heat (or air conditioner). The plants are very sensitive to temperature variations. If possible, collect several plants together to reconstitute a mini micro-climate favorable to their development. To this end, porches, conservatories are ideal because they are full of light, are immune to temperature and do not suffer from dry air caused by heating.
Plants are generally well liked in that extra living space. But be careful of excess heat in summer and too cold in winter. The plants that are most vulnerable can be protected if the premises are not heated.
Signs of poor health in plants, what to do?
It is essential to recognize the symptoms of ill health of a plant to remediate them. The leaves are the main indicator: yellow leaves, softened, dried lets you know there's something wrong.
If the soil is dry and leaves area falling, your plant needs water.
If plant is getting too dry, you can float it by immersing the pot in a tub of water for several minutes so that the water gets thoroughly into it. It will do the plant good.
But keep in mind, watering too often can damage the plant roots. If the plant leaves have become too soften, stop watering the plants and if necessary remove the pot and drop it on sheets of newspaper to absorb excess water.
Pests or diseases may also come devastate your plant. The easiest way to identify the origin of the disease or the nature of pests is to cut a piece of the stem and take it to a botanist who can identify the cause of the malaise of your plant and explain the procedures (treatment, potting mix, fertilizer).
Some resistant plants require little care.
The Clivia is a plant with broad green leaves that produces beautiful orange flower stems. This plant likes to be cramped in its pot, but even too much attention does not guarantee producing a beautiful flower.
Elephant's Foot (Beaucarnea recurvata) is a beautiful succulent plant native to Mexico consists of a broad stem (like a trunk) in shape of elephant's foot. It's a plant that grows slowly but surely and has the most beautiful and pleasant effects for all types of interior.
The leg goose (Syngonium podophyllum) is a plant with foliage climbing or falling depending on your choice with variegated leaves is beautiful. This plant does not require much care and grows very quickly (with minimal watering).
Orchids are undoubtedly difficult to maintain, but their flowers are so beautiful and last for weeks or months. Even if your orchid offers a single bloom, compared with a bouquet of flowers that lasts a few days, this flower will embellish in a much more better way.
